The scale of destructive storms becomes truly apparent when viewed from above. Island nations and entire countries can disappear beneath their shadow as they tear across the planet’s surface.

This animated visualisation shows the transit of typhoon Goni and super typhoon Atsani across the western Pacific during August 2015.

Produced for EUMETSAT as part of their communication activities, the animation uses an atmospheric shader I developed to realistically simulate the scattering of light in the atmosphere.
