Ocean circulation is a complex, inter-connected system driven by changes in temperature and salinity.  Its effects can be felt in our weather patterns and the varying ocean-going species that visit our shores throughout the year.

Seen from space, sea surface temperature is often strikingly beautiful and dynamic for the observer and helps scientists build up the picture of our changing environment.

With EUMETSAT scientist Anne O’Carroll, I designed, developed and produced this visualisation, showing sea surface temperatures across the globe during 2017.

The visualisation was created for EUMETSAT, for their outreach activities in relation to the European Commission’s Copernicus earth observation initiative.
