Working with an excellent team of developers and designers, I guided the design and UX of the Global Cycling Network’s beloved GCN app.
The IOS and Android apps were the main platform for the GCN+ subscription service, which provided live racing coverage from over 200 annual cycling events, including the Tour de France, La Vuelte and the Strade Bianchi.
It also provided a curated feed of cycling-related news, tech and community content, including user posts, votes, quizzes and competitions.
Users could upload photos and Strava tracks of their rides, showcase their bikes, like, comment and discuss all things cycling with like minded people.
Subscribers could stream live races to their TV, whilst following race commentary and interacting with other users watching through the app. They could also catch up with races they missed and set up reminders and alerts about events they were following.
At its height, the app had 267,000 subscribers across the IOS and Android apps and 500,000+ active users, along with a fully engaged Beta user community who provided feedback, suggestions and recommendations which were fed back to the team weekly, keeping roadmap enhancements customer-focussed.
The GCN+ subscription service and the GCN app were retired by Warner Brothers Discovery, after their acquisition of GCN, in favour of their own Eurosport App and Discovery+ services.
It was a pleasure to work with such great people, in a true start-up environment, on a project everyone was passionate about, especially its users.
